Interior design trends for 2022

Trends don’t spring from a vacuum, they normally come as a response to what is happening in the world and if this is so, then the design trends of 2022 will be shaped considerably by the difficulties that most of us went through during 2021. If you’re looking to move in 2022, here’s some design tips for selling your home in the coming year.

Green may be the color of 2022

Green has always been a popular color in the home, especially for bathrooms and even for bedrooms but many are looking at green becoming the dominant color for 2022. When we say green, we’re looking at milder, more restrained hues, ones that will look entirely in place not only in the bathroom but also in the living room. A color that many believe will be popular this year would be green tinged with gray, something like Evergreen Fog.

It’s not hard to appreciate why green may be so popular this year. Many of us have had a difficult 2021, and green represents a sense of rejuvenation, for some it even gives a feeling of rebirth. Add to this, as many of us have been trapped inside our houses for long periods of time, green in it’s on small way helps us to reconnect to something more natural.

Modular furniture

It is predicted that modular furniture will become increasingly popular and this trend may take off in 2022. Again, the pandemic will have an important part in the rise of modular furniture if it becomes the biggest trend of 2022.

As we spend more time in our homes we have had to look more carefully at how we utilize our space. Many have found difficulties with space and usage of furniture when they’ve had to spend most of their time at home. People are looking to make their furniture multipurpose and easy to rearrange. Ask anyone who’s been using their sofa and coffee table as their workspace for over a year.

Rooms need to do more than just be able to do one thing. An office which was religiously set aside for work now needs to double up as a leisure room for adults who need to get away from the kids just for a while. Installing a desk which allows for a small entertainment system as well as a laptop may tempt you to watch more entertainment than you should while at work, but it’s just a case of being more disciplined.

More Smart tech

The relentless surge of the Internet of things (IoT) will almost definitely increase in the coming year. Homes which are Smart and have interconnected devices are becoming more desirable. We’ve always wanted more comfort and convenience and a Smart home provides that. At its simplest, some Smart devices in your home allow you to control your entertainment and lighting from a tablet or phone. But Smart devices can do much more like keep a monitor on your power usage and give you greater access and control over the safety of your house. Forgot to lock your door when you’re out? A Smart system can let you do that from wherever you are.

Note that Smart homes are also becoming more popular with house buyers. Millennials have become the largest buying demographic, they are technologically savvy and more appreciative of Smart tech in the houses they look at.

Technology free areas

As our homes have become more filled with Smart devices that allow us to control almost all aspects of our living, there has grown a desire to create a space absent from the intrusion of tech.

Our living rooms are filled with tech; some people have Smart fridges which automatically order groceries when items run low. Our bedrooms have TVs, laptop desks and bluetooth speakers. Now, some just want a space where they and their kids can play, create and relax without the need for Smart technology.
