Rave party

It’s hard to get bored with so many things to do in College Station. Here are some annual festivals and fun community events to check out.

Aggie Muster Event

As one of Texas A&M University’s most cherished traditions, Aggie Muster takes place on April 21st of each year. During this event, the Aggie community gathers at the Reed Arena to celebrate the lives of Aggie alumni and family who have passed away during the previous year.

During the Roll Call for the Absent, the names of Aggies who have passed away are read, and a friend or family member of the deceased will answer “here” in their place. This signifies that the Aggie is still “here” in spirit and through their loved ones. The event also includes a livestream of the “Worldwide Roll Call for the Absent” for Muster ceremonies taking place in other countries.

April 21 coincides with the anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto, which is a holiday in Texas. The Corps of Cadets is known to have portrayed the Mexican Army while the State Guard played the Texans in a reenactment of the battle in the 1890s.

By 1897, the cadets no longer participated in the reenactment though the celebrations continued to take place on campus until 1899. These celebrations would eventually turn into the Aggie Muster.
