Scenic locations for your next photoshoot in College Station, TX

Photoshoots are fun! And whether you’re doing it for business, an event, your photography or modeling portfolio, or just for kicks, you’ll find that College Station is brimming with great, picture-perfect spots.

  1. Century Square – An 80-acre mixed-use development serving as a community center with its various shops and establishments, hotels, apartments, and a central gathering space, Century Square is the place to go if you’re looking to stage a photo shoot with an upbeat, contemporary atmosphere.

You’ll find various paintings, sculptures, and murals that can lend an interesting background to your photos. The whole development itself is tastefully designed, so you’ll find many areas that will suit the vibe you’re going for in your pictures. Taking regular selfies and photos is fine, but if you’re a professional photographer, remember to secure an authorization receipt first if you’re planning a photoshoot here.

  2. Texas A&M University – It’s hard to pinpoint just one ideal shoot location on campus, so we’ll just say that the entire university can be your studio. Overwhelmed by the choices here? Start at The Gardens at Texas A&M University, a 27-acre public garden and green space. You won’t need to get a permit to take professional photos here; just mind how you go and follow the rules.

Don’t forget to visit Research Park as well. It has 40 acres of numerous, interconnected ponds, green spaces, beautiful willow trees, and more than a mile of walking paths. This park is a popular spot for photoshoots, so it’s likely that you’ll find other people and photographers on the day of your shoot. But the park has so much space and sights that you won’t have to worry about having others in your photos.

The Administration Building, with its imposing white columns and stairs, can lend a classic look to your photos, while the Academic Plaza has the Military Walk and the Century Tree. You’ll also find a vineyard, bridges, and water spaces throughout the campus.

  3. Lick Creek Park – Featuring trails and tree tunnels, this park is a great spot for nature-inspired photoshoots. Parking is also free and accessible. You may have to share the space with joggers, bikers, and even horseback riders, so be mindful of them during your shoot and remember that everyone is entitled to use the park.

  4. George H.W. Bush Presidential Library – The library grounds and gardens, particularly The Barbara Bush Rose Garden and the Presidential Pond, are a choice location for photoshoots of all types, but most especially engagement shoots. The manicured lawns, the gazebo, and the variety of plants all come together to create a picturesque and romantic setting.

Take note, however, that the George Bush Library Gardens is one of the more popular photoshoot locations in College Station. Expect a line in some of the centerpiece attractions, such as the bridge.

  5. Tonkaway Ranch – Tonkaway Ranch is a working cattle farm that can be perfect for country-style or cowboy-themed shoots. There are 2,400 acres of land to explore and inspire you, including a spring-fed lake for more contemplative and scenic shots. Aspiring wildlife photographers can also train their lenses on local fauna here: white tail deer, bobcats, wild hogs, waterfowl, and a variety of birds are regularly spotted here. Just make sure to keep your distance when shooting wild animals.

But what puts Tonkaway Ranch in this list are its bluebonnet fields, which bloom from March to May. There are 50 acres of these fields-the perfect backdrop for your family or engagement portraits. Nature photographers can also take all the time they need to photograph Texas’s state flower. For magical shots, stay until golden hour and watch these bluebonnets glow under the afternoon sun.

  6. Lake Bryan – Galveston and its beaches are roughly two hours away from College Station. But if you’re looking for an easy destination for your “beach” photoshoot, head to Lake Bryan- it’s only about 20 minutes from Texas A&M University. There’s a small beach that’s relatively picturesque. And while there are no direct sunset views, this time of the day at Lake Bryan can be beautiful. You can also hop on a boat to take shots in the middle of the lake.

Summer is an especially busy time at Lake Bryan. If you can, schedule your photoshoot on a weekday. Bring bug spray! If the beach is crowded, the wooded area near the lake is also a gorgeous spot for photos.
